Keep Your Clothes Looking Great:
Accidentally Dyed Whites
Don't put them in the dryer or the new color will set! Rewash them
immediately. If the color remains, drop into a diluted bleach bath
(1 Tbs. bleach mixed with 1/4 cup water) for 15 minutes. Rinse then
wash again.Stuck Zippers
Rub the lead point of a No. 2 pencil or candle along the teeth of
the zipper to smooth the way and help the zipper stay on track.
Bleach Splatters
If a drop of bleach damages your favorite top, find a sharpie marker
in a color that matches and fill in the spots. Turn it inside out
when washing and the ink won't run.
Unraveling Buttons
Apply clear nail polish to set the thread. But be sure not to let it
touch the fabric.
Greasy Spills
Sprinkle salt, talc powder, baking soda or even flour on a greasy
spill and let sit before washing or pre-treating the grease stain.
The dry powder should help absorb some of the grease making stain
removal easier.
Cheap Stain Treatment
Shout and Spray n Wash type products do work wonders but can be a
bit expensive. Check your local dollar store for a product called
Mean Green or Simple Green. These products work wonders on laundry
mishaps and also serve double duty as regular household cleansers.
No Lint Roller
Wrap a piece of masking tape around your hand, sticky side out. Then
pat the lint off your clothes.
Hem Come Undone With No Time To Sew It Up
Use double sided tape to apply a quick fix to a unraveled hem. Also
try using a staple or two from your handy office stapler. Both quick
fixes will get you through your day until you have time to repair
the hem or drop it off at the dry cleaners for repair.
Extremely Dirty Whites
Load the washing machine with detergent and bleach as you normally
would. Five minutes into the wash cycle turn off the washer. Allow
the load to soak for 15-20 minutes before turning the machine back
on. This allows a little extra time for the tough stains to soak in
the bleach water.
